The Azul
₳ — the national currency of Monteverde Azulado. Issued by the Treasury, held by citizens, exchanged on a transparent ledger.
Principles
- Sovereign. The Azul exists for the use of the Republic and its citizens.
- Transparent. Every issuance and tax is logged and publicly readable.
- Sufficient. Citizens receive a founding stipend so the economy starts with circulation, not scarcity.
- Restrained. New issuance requires a published decree of the Founding Council.
How it works
Treasury
The Treasury is the national reserve. It is the only entity that may mint or burn Azules. Every change to the Treasury is recorded with the authorizing minister and a stated purpose.
Citizen wallets
Each citizen receives a wallet on the day they swear the oath, credited with the founding stipend. Wallets hold a balance in Azules and a complete transaction history visible only to their owner.
Transfers
Citizens may send Azules to one another at any time. Transfers are atomic — they either complete in full or not at all. Wallets cannot go negative.
Taxation
The default tax rate on transfers is zero. The Founding Council may, by decree, set a transfer tax that flows to the Treasury for public works. Any such decree is reversible by referendum.
Public ledger
The Republic publishes a continuously updated ledger showing total Azules in circulation, Treasury balance, number of active wallets, and aggregate economic activity. Individual citizen balances and transfers remain private.
What this enables
A working internal economy lets the Republic do things real nations do: pay for shared work, reward contribution, fund the acquisition and stewardship of the island, and let citizens trade goods and services with one another in their own currency.
The economic system is being built in phases. Stipends, wallets, transfers, and the public ledger are scheduled for release after the citizen platform opens.
